Durango Cowboy Poetry Gathering

This week Durango welcomes the Cowboy Poetry Gathering to town! Four days of activities include a Cowboy Parade, a special Cowboy Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Train ride, a poet's horseback ride, various art exhibits and a full roster of performers throughout the weekend kicking off with a performance by Baxter Black on Thursday night! This is a great weekend to be in town and see Durango claim - and exclaim! - its western roots.

Under the star-studded sky so vast
Campfires and coffee and comfort at last
Bacon that sizzles and crisps in the pan
After the roundup smells good to a man
Stories of cowboys and outlaws retold
Over the pipes as the embers grow cold
These are the tunes that old memories play
Make me a cowboy again for a day.

Fall Colors - Scenic Drives near Durango, Colorado

The trees burst into color this weekend! Glorious weather and clear skies are making this a banner year for leaf peeping in Southwest Colorado. A day trip along the San Juan Skyway is the perfect way for visitors in the Durango area to experience the spectacular fall colors that Colorado offers. The trees along the Dolores, Uncompaghre and Animas Rivers will be at their peak over the next week or two and our B&B guests have been regaling us with their descriptions of the golden shimmer of aspens.
